Abstract / Description
Turnagain Heights was built on a high bluff overlooking the sea. The unstable, water-saturated clay beneath Turnagain Heights liquefied and flowed to the mudflats below. Liquefaction of sand layers at depth may also have contributed to the failure.
Includes slides S5481 to S5538, and many duplicates. Part of the Places with Hazards, A Teacher's Handbook on Natural Hazards for Secondary Earth Science Classes Geologic Hazards Lecture Set, The Earthquake Hazard in Utah publication.
