Vertical banks in foreground estimated to be about 60 feet high, by Cahoon, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR). Most of this cutting was done by the heavy floods of the 1880s. Cahoon, in speaking to the inhabitants of Kanab, was told that the deepening of the channel opened up springs from which are drawn the late summer irrigation water. Apparently, there was no summer surface flow when the stream-bed was at its former elevation. Shot taken about one-fourth to one-half mile downstream from present Kanab Diversion Dam and about 2 miles above the Town of Kanab.
